What is the Difference between Coaching and Consulting?

Coaching allows the clients to set the agenda for the discussion. Coaches ask questions and draw on motivations, ideas, and answers already within the client. Coaches support the client in identifying self-limiting beliefs and help move them forward toward their goals. It is not required that a good coach is an expert in a field, they only need to be an expert in asking good questions. In this approach the client makes personal discoveries and is taught by the Holy Spirit.

Consulting on the other hand is performed by experts and specialists who are paid for solutions. They are typically hired to come and diagnose a problem and then propose a solution of strategy to remedy the problem. Many times the consultant is also responsible for implementing the solution. A consultant may use a series of discovery tools and assessments in their diagnosing process, as well as require research for the development of a strategy that brings a solution to the problem.
